Matching

Reys automatically scores every incoming deal against your active mandates, so you always know how well an opportunity fits your investment criteria.

How matching works

Matching runs automatically as part of the deal processing pipeline — there’s nothing you need to do to trigger it. Once a deal has been classified as a supported type (VC Fund or VC Direct) and its data has been extracted, Reys compares that data against every active mandate in your organization.

Only mandates that are in an active state participate in matching. Drafts and inactive mandates are skipped.

Field-by-field scoring

For each mandate, Reys uses AI to evaluate the deal against your criteria on a field-by-field basis. Each field gets its own score (0–100) along with a short explanation of the reasoning — for example, why a particular geography was considered a strong match or a partial one.

The individual field scores are then combined into a single overall score (0–100%) for that mandate.

Fit badges

Based on the overall score, each match is labeled with a fit badge:

BadgeMeaning
StrongThe deal closely aligns with the mandate’s criteria
PartialThe deal partially aligns — some criteria match, others don’t
LowThe deal has limited alignment with the mandate

The thresholds for Strong and Partial are configured per mandate template and can vary between organizations.

Reviewing match results

Open any deal and go to the Mandate Matches tab to see the full results. At the top, you’ll find a summary showing:

  • Total number of mandates evaluated
  • The best overall score
  • The average score across all mandates
  • The number of strong matches

Below the summary, each mandate is shown as a match card. Expand a card to see the field-by-field breakdown — the value extracted from the pitch deck, the value in your mandate, and the score and reasoning for that comparison.

Match analysis

For each match, Reys generates a detailed analysis using AI. This goes beyond the raw score to give you a qualitative picture of the opportunity. The analysis includes:

  • Investment thesis — a 2–3 sentence summary of how well the deal fits the mandate
  • Scorecard — ratings across eight categories: Financial Fit, Strategic Fit, Operational Fit, Market Dynamics, Risk Profile, Capital Structure, Traction & Momentum, and Value Add
  • Critical gaps — areas where the deal falls short and may limit conviction
  • Deal positioning — how this deal compares to what you typically see
  • Diligence priorities — 2–4 recommended next steps if you want to move forward

The analysis also includes citations that link specific findings back to the original pitch deck, so you can verify where the data came from.

Return email to the sender

After processing, Reys automatically sends a return email back to the original sender. This email summarizes how the deal performed against your mandates — including the fit category (Strong, Partial, or Low) and the top aligning and misaligning criteria for each mandate.

The return email includes results for up to five mandates. Your default mandate is always listed first. See the Mandates guide for more on setting a default.

Giving feedback

On each match card, you can leave a thumbs up or thumbs down to rate the quality of the match. This helps track how well the matching is performing over time.

Re-running matching

If you update a mandate after a deal has already been processed, the old match results won’t update automatically. You can re-run matching for a specific deal using the Rerun Deal option from the row actions menu in the deals table.
